Pheasant Mail Order The Coverbridge Inn in Leyburn - THE best pub ever! Ham, egg & chips with half a Theakstons - done.
  • Brymor
    High Jervaulx, N. Yorkshire (brymordairy.co.uk)

We’ve mentioned Brymor before and we’ll always sing their praises!  Our cars seem to be on autopilot whenever we do the drive from Wensleydale towards Masham, veering off down the drive, past the herd of Jersey cows who produce the amazing multi-award winning ice cream.  For those of you with a super-sweet tooth, you cannot go wrong with their “Praline Pecan Delight” flavour!  (And don’t forget to pick up some gold top milk and clotted cream to take home with you!)

  • Druids Temple & Leighton Reservoir
    Ilton, N. Yorkshire (mysteriousbritain.co.uk/england/north-yorkshire/featured-sites/druids-temple-ilton.html)

We have many photographs of my sister and I under the age of 10 climbing all over the huge slabs at Druids Temple in Ilton, a few miles outside of our beloved Masham.  Said to be Yorkshire’s version of Stonehenge, the folly was created by William Danby of Swinton Hall in 1820.  Dig out a map and find your way there – it’s so worth a brisk afternoon walk, and a lean on the gate to admire the view of Leighton Rerservoir.

  • Bivouac
    Swinton, N. Yorkshire (thebivouac.co.uk)

Now, we didn’t quite make it to Bivouac back in May, but my how we admired their amazing venture on their website!  We wondered what the Bivouac signs around Masham and Swinton Castle meant last year but now all has been revealed.  If you are looking for somewhere unusual to stay, they have created woodland shacks, meadow yurts and bunk barns – the ultimate in Yorkshire countryside accommodation.  If you want to take part in a bread making, wood turning or foraging events, Bivouac run these regularly, and wow does their cafe [http://www.thebivouac.co.uk/cafe] look amazing!

  • Hornseys, The Gallery
    Ripon, N. Yorkshire (hornseys.com)

This place is a treasure trove of gorgeous things.  Every time we “pop in”, we’re in for at least half an hour and come away with handfuls of beautiful cards, stationery and the odd print or 3.  It’s when owner Daniel Hornsey starts to open up the plan chest drawers that we know our wallets are in trouble – there are drawers upon drawers of mouth-wateringly tempting prints – this gem is such a welcome addition to lovely Ripon.

  • Black Sheep Brewery
    Masham, N. Yorkshire (blacksheepbrewery.com)

The Black Sheep brand just goes from strength to strength and we’re big fans here – whether you’re in the mood for a brewery tour and a visit to their shop, or fancy a hearty Yorkshire lunch or dinner (they really are substantial portions!), be sure to follow all of these activities with a pint of delicious Black Sheep Ale.
